Fast-scale bifurcation in single-stage PFC power supplies operating with DCM boost stage and CCM forward stage

چکیده
This paper describes the fast-scale bifurcation phenomena of a single-stage single-switch power-factorcorrection (PFC) regulator comprising a boost stage operating in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) and a forward stage operating in continuous conduction mode (CCM). The two stages combine into a single stage by sharing one main switch and one control loop. Using ‘exact’ cycle-by-cycle computer simulations, the e ects of various circuit parameters on fast-scale instabilities are studied. The results are qualitatively veri ed by experimental measurements. This work provides a clear picture of how the variation of certain practical parameters can render such a circuit fast-scale unstable. Copyright ? 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Hopf bifurcation as an Intermediate-Scale Instability in Single-Stage Power-Factor-Correction Power supplies: Analysis, Simulations and Experimental Verification
This paper reports intermediate-scale instability in a single-stage power-factor-correction (PFC) power supply that employs a cascade configuration of a boost stage operating in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) and a forward stage operating in continuous conduction mode (CCM). The two stages combine into a single stage by sharing one main switch and one control loop to achieve input PFC and ...
متن کاملA Novel Method for Elimination of Line-Current Harmonics in Single-Stage PFC Switching Regulators
This paper studies a particular single-stage power-factor-correction (PFC) switching regulator employing a discontinuous-conduction-mode (DCM) boost-input cell and a continuous-current-mode (CCM) forward output cell. Although this single-stage PFC regulator can provide a reasonably high power factor when its PFC stage is operating in discontinuous mode, substantial reduction in line-current har...
متن کاملAn Innovative Approach to Achieving Single Stage PFC and Step-Down Conversion for Distributive Systems
In most modern PFC circuits, to lower the input current harmonics and improve the input power factor, designers have historically used a boost topology. The boost topology can operate in the Continuous Conduction Mode (CCM), Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM), or Critical Conduction Mode. Most PFC applications using the boost topology are designed to operate over the universal input AC voltage...
متن کاملAN-8027 — FAN480X PFC+PWM Combination Controller Application
This application note describes step-by-step design considerations for a power supply using the FAN480X controller. The FAN480X combines a PFC controller and a PWM controller. The PFC controller employs average current mode control for Continuous Conduction Mode (CCM) boost converter in the front end. The PWM controller can be used in either current mode or voltage mode for the downstream conve...
متن کاملSingle-Stage Single-Switch Input-Current-Shaping Technique with Fast-Output-Voltage Regulation
A new single-stage single-switch input-currentshaping (S4ICS) technique, which combines the boost-like input-current shaper with a continuous-conduction-mode (CCM) dc/dc output stage, is described. In this technique, the boost inductor can operate in both the discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) and CCM. Due to the ability to keep a relatively low voltage (<450 Vdc) on the energy-storage capacit...
